About the Wine: The Russian River Pinot Noir is crafted from all of Davis Family's single vineyards each vintage. This blend is a perfect embodiment of all that the Russian River Valley has to offer in one deeply layered, complex wine. Taking fruit from differing microclimates throughout the Russian River Valley, this wine encompasses all that has made the Russian River Valley a world renowned wine growing region. Each single vineyard is hand picked in small lots throughout harvest. Starr Ridge typically ripens first, followed by Soul Patch and then Horseshoe Bend. This blend is a pure expression of all that the Russian River Valley has to offer. The earthiness and bright acidity from Horseshoe Bend, the juicy dark cherry and exotic spices of Starr Ridge and the soft elegance, finesse and complexity of Soul Patch unite flawlessly.

Winemaking Notes: Davis Family Vineyards strives to highlight the unique characteristics that make fruit from each vineyard, from each varied micoclimate, so very special and unique. All of their Pinot Noir is aged in French oak for 10 months. 1/3 of the barrels are new, 1/3 are one year old, and 1/3 are 2 year old. In doing so, they are able to benefit from the finesse and structure of barrel aging, while not overwhelming the varietal characteristics of Pinot Noir. Guy tastes through and then hand selects barrels from each single vineyard that he feels will add a valuable component to the Russian River blend. The differing microclimates of the three single vineyards each offer specific characteristics that are integral to the blend. The end result is a Pinot Noir that portrays a balanced representation of the range and depth to be achieved in the Russian River Valley. The fermentation was conducted using native yeast in small, temperature controlled, open top fermentors. Gentle punch downs were done over a 3-4 week fermentation, after a 5-7 day cold soak. The Pinot is then pressed and transferred directly into barrel, using gravity flow.
