The Davis Family Old Vine Zinfandel is from a less than 3 acre block on their estate vineyard. Sourced from vines that were 115 years old at the time of harvest, this wine has never exceeded 250 cases in any vintage. The relationship between these century old vines and the precious Gold Ridge soil they are planted in, generates a special result every year. The age and depth of these roots give a complexity in the form of spice and earthen bramble notes, and the cool Russian River Valley leaves the wine bright and fresh, with a balance rare in Zinfandel – an elegance that makes it one of the all time best of this varietal with food.

The vineyard is dry farmed. Due to the age of the vines, different clusters on the same vine may ripen at different rates. The Zinfandel is harvested by making several small picks, vine by vine over the course of a few weeks so that every bit of fruit is perfectly ripened. The wine is then sorted and put into open top fermentors. It is aged in 100% neutral French oak for 10 months.

The Zinfandel produced is more Old World in style than the jammy California Zinfandel. Think Barolo or Brunello; the wine has a brown spice character. It will go well with food.
