Tasting Notes: Incredible dark purple color. The aromas of dark cherries, plums and roasted cocoa come leaping out of the glass. This is a big but very suave wine with layers of ripe cherry and berry fruits, and the cocoa and vanilla flavors simply make this wine's finish go on and on and on. There are loads of ripe, soft tannins, so this wine will certainly age beautifully for a decade or longer, but the temptation to drink it right away may be too much to resist. Serve with absolutely any red-wine friendly food and you will have a ball!

The Story: Proprietor and long-time wine lover, Anabelle Sielecki, diligently tracked down the very best talent Argentina had to offer when seeking Mendel's winemaker, and with utmost charm and perseverance brought Roberto de la Mota on board as her partner. Roberto, son of legendary winemaker Raul de la Mota, has an impressive winemaking record and a lifetime of winemaking education and achievement. Together, they choose the best blocks from her family’s ancient vineyards, and every artisan winemaking step is rigorously performed. Anabelle’s father came to Argentina as a young immigrant and worked hard to become a successful businessman in several different industries. He was a man who came to love the finest things that life could offer, particularly wine. Anabelle honors her father by seeking perfection in the wine that carries his first name, Mendel, on the label.

Reviews
Mendel 2011 'Unus' (Bordeaux Blend), Mendoza
Rating: 92

Saturated, bright ruby. Blackberry, black plum, cocoa powder and spicecake on the perfumed nose. Suave, sappy and broad, showing excellent concentration and a restrained sweetness to its intense flavors of dark fruits, cocoa powder and minerals. I like the combination of density and energy here. Very long on the aftertaste, with ripe tannins thoroughly buffered by fruit. Drink now or over the next ten years.
