1889, the world’s first glögg liqueur, is based on a generations old
Swedish family recipe. 1889 is flavored with the purest natural and
traditional botanicals, and uses spirits as a base instead of red wine.
Delicious both cold and heated, 1889 is also used as an exciting drink
component.
Made from only seven natural ingredients by a production process that combines both infusion and distillation, glögg liqueur captures the spicy notes from cardamom, cinnamon and cloves and obtains balance from raisins and almonds. The citrus notes come from dried Seville orange peels and the balanced sweetness from pure cane sugar.
About Geijer Glögg: Founded in 2011 and headquartered in San Francisco, the company traces its heritage back to 19th century Sweden. The founder of the company, Martin Geijer, is a direct descendant of the Geijer Family and moved to San Francisco from Sweden in the 1990s. Their glögg liqueur has been available in California since October 2012. Bronze Medal at San Francisco World Spirits Competition Wine & Spirits 12/2013 "While our winters may not be as dark or long as they are in Scandinavia, thanks to Martin Geijer, maker of Geijer Glogg, we now possess a liqueur version of their secret weapon against the cold. Traditionally made by mulling sweetened red wine with spices, glogg tends to be heavy, warming stuff. Geijer has retooled his family recipe to make a more refined version by distilling and infusing spices into neutral spirit instead of wine. The spirit smells like a clove-studded orange. Alone and at room temperature, it tastes like lightly sweetened spice tea. The magic happens when it's heated up or served in a hot toddy. It's bottled holiday cheer."
Spice Up Your Cocktails: Glögg liqueur is delicious on its own as well as an exciting new ingredient in cocktails where it adds depth and character to existing cocktails. 1889 blends equally well with a bourbon as it does a gin,
or for the more adventurous, mixing with a bitter or rum offers a
distinctive new taste. It can also be served as a traditional glögg, which is warmed much like sake can be warmed and consumed in small cups.
