Vineyard Information: The 2011 Talbott Pinot Noir, Logan is made using 100% estate-grown fruit from Sleepy Hollow Vineyard. It is sourced from vines ranging from ten to forty years old. Sleepy Hollow Vineyard is situated on 585 acres of benchland in the Santa Lucia Highlands, 13 miles south of Monterey. The well-drained vineyard features sparse soils comprised of sand, gravel, and granite. These soils reduce yields and create rich, concentrated flavors in the grapes. The vineyard receives morning sunlight from its east-northeast exposure, and lives much of the time in the cool fog and wind from the Pacific Ocean. With a long, cool growing season, the grapes develop the character, intensity and depth of flavor for which the vineyard has become famous.

Vintage Notes: The 2011 growing season led to exceptional quality grapes with excellent natural acidity and richness. Despite the coolness of the vintage, low crop levels meant we were able to achieve ideal ripeness.

Tasting Notes: Talbott Logan Pinot Noir is made to strike a perfect balance between the pure fruit character of the estate grapes, and the influence of winemaker Dan Karlsen—a Pinot Noir and Chardonnay specialist. It shows beautiful aromas and flavors of cherry, blueberry and blackberry, supported by subtle vanilla and cinnamon spice elements. On the palate, smooth tannins and rich berry notes lead to a satisfying finish with hints of smoky vanilla from the French oak aging. Logan Pinot Noir is named after Robb Talbott’s son.

Dark red. Pungent aromas of black raspberry, bitter cherry, spicecake and dried flowers. Smooth and broad on entry, then a bit tighter in the middle, with a subtle floral quality to the raspberry, cherry and bitter chocolate flavors. Finishes sappy and long, with firming tannins and a hint of cherry pit.

Juicy and lively, with upfront fruit and texture, the 2011 Pinot Noir Logan seems also geared for immediate gratification with its supple cherry fruit and spice, medium-bodied richness and vibrant acidity. It too is a solid value that offers good typicity and should be consumed over the coming 2-3 years. Drink now-2016.
