Grapes are sourced from older estate vineyards including from the centenarian Monte Real Estate. Aged for 24 to 30 months in American oak followed by an additional 36 months in bottle.
Monte Real stands for "Royal/Regal Mountain.” This is one of the oldest single estates in Rioja, owned by the Artacho family. In 1930, the winery hired a French winemaker who felt in love within this vineyard and named the brand.
Bodegas Riojanas has more than 300 hectares of the best vineyards in Cenicero, San Vicente de la Sonsierra and nearby municipalities in the Rioja Alta. While the quintessential grape variety is Tempranilllo, Riojanas also owns one of the largest areas dedicated to Mazuelo and Graciano. These varieties bring a unique personality and distinction to their wines.

Bodegas Riojanas 2001 'Monte Real' Gran Reserva, Rioja DOCa
Rating: 89
The 2001 Monte Real Gran Reserva has notes of jammy fruit intermixed with tertiary aromas of truffles and spices, a medium-bodied palate, and flavors of strawberry jam, with good acidity and length. Drink 2014-2017.
