Grapes are sourced from 35-55 year old vineyards as well as some older plots in the villages of Villalva, Briñas, Ollauri, Uruñuela and Cenicero. Aged for 24 to 30 months in American oak followed by an additional 36 months in bottle. Albina is an old female name that was very common in the 18th and 19th century. Albina was the wife of one of the founders of the estate thus named after her – “Albina’s Vineyard."

Bodegas Riojanas 2001 'Vina Albina' Gran Reserva, Rioja DOCa
Rating: 90
The 2001 Vina Albina Gran Reserva displays elegant balsamic aromas of sandalwood, tobacco, tea leaves and leather. The medium-bodied palate is supple, still holding onto some juicy fruit, with roasted flavors and a good finish. This is a very good Gran Reserva, but I’d have expected a little more complexity for such a great vintage. Drink 2014-2020.
