Winemaker Notes: "Little James is at Saint Cosme the wine of freedom. Our Solera is getting more and more complexity year after year. When we add the current vintage, the solera gains a new element without changing the style... This wine recalls the ancient times when the wine merchants would make wines having only one target: the pleasure. Blending vintages can be a great way to make nice wines, if it’s well done. This cuvée shows how the grenache can be a chameleon-grape which has the ability to take many different forms. But it always keeps its sense of softness, fruit and texture. The 2012 bottlings will contain 50% of 2011, blended with all the vintages back to 1999. Cherry, spices from the souk, gingerbread, strawberry compote, coal, garrigue." -Louis Barroul
Parker's Wine Bargains: The World's Best Wine Values Under $25 "This sexy, ripe wine dominated by Grenache is an amazing value, with oodles of black cherry fruit in a thick, glycerin emboldened style. It is full-bodied, lush and ideal for drinking in its first several years of life."

The NV Little Basket Press (all Grenache) offers good pepper, spice and herbs in a medium-bodied, easy drinking package. It’s a solid, bistro-styled red to drink over the coming couple of years.

(all grenache, made from a solera that was started in 1999; 50% of the blend is from the most recent vintage, in this case 2010): Bright purple. Precise, aromatic nose of cassis, cherry and lavender. Tightly wound on the palate, with a firm mineral spine giving clarity and lift to the dark berry and bitter cherry flavors. Finishes with gentle tannins and good focus. Quite grown-up for an entry-level wine; I've been seeing quite a bit of this wine in restaurants around the country lately.

Saint Cosme NV 'Little James Basket Press' Rouge, Vin de France
Rating: 88
The non-vintage Vin de Table Little James Basket Press is created from a solera system based on 50% from 2008 and the rest from older vintages. It is always 100% Grenache and is finished with a screw cap. This beauty offers lots of spicy, peppery, black cherry and even blacker fruits along with medium body, a tasty, satisfying style and a remarkably low price. It is best drunk in its first 1-2 years of life

Saint Cosme NV 'Little James Basket Press' Rouge, Vin de France
Rating: 89
Under the Saint-Cosme label, his non-vintage Little James Basket Press Vin de Table is one of the top bargain picks available. It is based on a solera system, and the newest incarnation is composed of 50% from 2007 and the rest older vintages. It represents a confiture of black raspberries and cherries interwoven with pepper, spice, and earth. Deep, fruity, round, and pure, it is an attractive red to drink over the next year or so
