Vintage Notes: 2012 was a very exciting vintage. The entire year winemakers were
anxious to begin harvest because the weather conditions leading
up to it were ideal. The beginning of the year was quite dry in the
Santa Lucia Highlands. This stresses the vines, and produces fruit
of intense flavor. The flowering and fruit-set were picturesque and
were followed by a mild summer free of heat spikes. This allows
for one to achieve the ideal ripeness in a given block. Across the
board, the wines produced are very remarkable and age-worthy. Vineyard Information: 'Lucia' Chardonnay is a blend between fruit from the Pisoni and
Soberanes Vineyards. This wine is a wonderful representation of
the cool climate Santa Lucia Highlands and these estate vineyards.
The goal is to create a “world-class” appellation blend and barrels
for this wine are hand selected, just as for the single-vineyard wines. Winemaking Notes: The Pisoni family is committed to crafting exceptional wines.
The limited-production Lucia wines are created using classic, gentle
and thoughtful winemaking techniques. Native-yeast fermentation,
hand-sorting, gravity flow, carefully-selected French oak
barrels, etc. are standard practice in the Pisoni family's state of the
art winemaking facility. This custom designed winery is an extension
of the estate vineyards and allows complete control over the
entire farming and winemaking process, ensuring consistent quality. Tasting Notes: Green/gold in color and generous with its aroma, a consistent character
of the 2012 vintage, the Santa Lucia Highlands Chardonnay
is open and expressive with a complex array of pear, jasmine,
green apple and brioche. The palate is broad and approachable with
notes of white peach that unfold into a long finish. This wine is a
blend of fruit from the Pisoni and Soberanes vineyards.
