Vineyard Information: 'Le Pergole Torte' is the crown jewel of Montevertine, the Tuscan estate in the heart of Chianti, whose mission is to articulate its terroir through the noble Sangiovese grape. The wine is made with highly selected Sangiovese grapes from the estate Le Pergole Torte Vineyard as well as other estate parcels. The total surface of Montevertine’s vineyards covers approximately 18 hectares. Le Pergole Torte Vineyard was planted in 1968 with a surface area of two hectares. This parcel has one of the coolest microclimates in the region, giving the wine an electric energy and precision. Montevertine only produces the 'Le Pergole Torte' wine in outstanding vintages, and it is always 100% Sangiovese.

Winemaking Notes: After a manual harvest, the wine is fermented in large (150hl) cement cuves for at least 25 days. Le Pergole Torte rests for eighteen months in large Slavonian oak casks before being transferred to smaller barriques for six months before bottling. The wine is bottled without filtration and then held in bottle for at least six months prior to release.

Tasting Notes: The classic profile of Le Pergole Torte is in clear relief in 2010: deep red color with a chestnut hue; a delicate balance achieved between fruit and acid; tannins that wax and wane like a gentle but persuasive tide. Surely a wine that demands a place in the cellar and that will provide years of pleasure.

Antonio Galloni, Wine Advocate 6/2012
"Le Pergole Torte isn’t a great Tuscan or Italian wine. It is simply one of the world’s elite wines."
