The Echezeaux Grand Cru is located above Clos Vougeot, with only a wall separating these two famous vineyards. The name comes from "cheza" (plural "chezeaux"): a hamlet. The monks of Cîteaux, who already owned Clos Vougeot, coveted the Musigny vineyard but were never able to acquire it. They put all their hopes instead on Grands-Echezaux so as to become the rival of the prestigious Musigny. The vineyard is on a moderate incline, facing due east. The soil is chalk from the Bajocian layer, ideally suited for Pinot Noir.

Domaine Fourrier 2011 Echezeaux Grand Cru AOC
Rating: (92-94)
Grand Cru A seamless, totally inviting Burgundy, the Echezeaux gives the impression of being a wine that will provide immense pleasure throughout its entire life. Dark red cherry and plum notes wrap around the palate in a seductive wine that hits all the right notes. There is a lot to look forward to here.
