Domaine Fourrier 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru, Clos St. Jacques, AOC
Rating: 95

Bright, dark red. Knockout nose combines raspberry, cherry, crushed stone and rose petal. Wonderfully sweet, silky and seamless, but with harmonious acidity energizing the mid-palate and keeping the wine's flavors under wraps today. Finishes with penetrating minerality, outstanding verve and a whiplash of red fruits. A beauty in the making, but lay it down.

Rating: (93-95)

Fourrier's 2011 Gevrey-Chambertin Clos St.-Jacques stands out for its pure textural depth and richness. This is one of the more solid, imposing wines in the range. Firm tannins frame a huge core of fruit. With time in the glass, the broad shoulders fill out nicely. Of all the Fourrier 2011s, the Clos St.-Jacques is likely to be among the slowest to mature. Readers who can find it need to be prepared to be patient.

The 2011 Gevery-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos Saint Jacques, whose vines are located between Armand Rousseau and Louis Jadot, has a tightly-wound bouquet with raspberry coulis, wild strawberry and a touch of quince. The palate is structured with a gentle grip, a slight salty tang toward the finish, that needs just a touch more precision. I actually prefer the Chambolle Cherbaudes in terms of balletic poise. Cellar this for two or three years. Drink 2015-2025+
