Vintage Notes: 2013 was the latest finishing vintage in 15 years with the last lots of Syrah for Rosê picked on the 24th of October. Late vintages are generally challenging because maturity takes time and there are greater risks of rain and rot. But, if the work in the vineyard is perfect the results can be outstanding. Thankfully, the small amount of rain in October didn't spoil the grapes and actually had a positive influence. Grenache had a
poor set in the spring and didn't benefit from the late harvest so that was the one casualty along with generally low
yields across all Provence. Yields in the Coteaux d'Aix were off by about 10% which was lucky, as other areas in Provence like Cotes de Provence AOC were closer to 20% below last years volume.
Tasting Notes: The color is a Copper River salmon pink which is a shade darker than last year due, not to added skin contact, but to the greater percentage of Syrah. Aromas dance between summer flowers, wild
strawberry and cherry and herbs de Provence. These same flavors carry through on the palate but in a more delicate way. The palate is surprisingly broad and rich, though not at
all heavy, and finishes with mouth watering acidity. Thanks to excellent work in the
vineyards Bieler Pere et Fils was able to find a beautiful balance between - acidity, fruit, savory and alcohol (which is lower than last year).
About Bieler Pere et Fils In 1992, Philippe Bieler, Charles's Bieler's father, founded Chateau Routas in Coteaux Varois – a small appellation in the middle of Provence. The winery focused on Grenache based red blends and Rosé. Charles and his sister Mira got involved in the mid 90's when
they developed, through unorthodox winemaking and creative marketing and selling, one of the more dynamic Rosé brands in America at the time. In 2005, there was a great opportunity to sell the winery and estate and they took it. They
founded Bieler Pere et Fils that same year they sold Routas and now focus 100% on making Rosé.
