Winemaking Notes: Handpicked grapes from 90-year-old wines. Grapes were gently de-stemmed. Fermentation lasted for 7 days at temperature of 25-28ºC. Wine was fermented in stainless steel. It underwent malolactic fermentation to increase creaminess.
Tasting Notes: Ripe fruit flavors of blackberry, plums and black cherry with hints of licorice, smoke and black pepper.
About Argentina: The most important wine-producing country in South America, and the fifth biggest wine producer in the world. Brought by Spanish colonizers first in 1541. Wine producing regions are mostly on the western strip of the country bordering the Andes. Summers are warm and winters are cold, though frost is rare. The air is dry and unpolluted. The Zonda winds are intense in the summer, but in general provide relief from fungus and humidity. Mendoza is the largest and most important of its winegrowing regions, accounting for 70 percent of all wine production, which focuses squarely on Malbec, with Criolla Grande, Cereza, Tempranillo, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Chardonnay becoming increasingly common. Other important provinces are San Juan, La Rioja, and Salta.
