Tasting Notes:Aromas of smoky oak and cherry. Mouthwatering, penetrating flavors of ripe red and black cherries, red berries. Quite rich and velvety on the palate, and finishes with just enough grip to make it a real winner with food. This is some seriously sexy Malbec.

The Story: Tikal wines reflect the spirit of Mendoza: the sense of pride, love, celebration, and a bit of craziness. Ernesto Catena spent his childhood in the vineyards of Mendoza among wine-growers and local characters. A skilled horseman, software developer, and modern photography gallery owner, Ernesto pursues all that gives pleasure in life. This hedonism (in the best sense of the word) shows through in his wines. They have a style meant to provide enormous pleasure rather than provoke contemplation; an expression of emotion rather than intellect. He has named his wines with passion in mind: Patriota (Patriot), Amorio (Love Affair), Jubilo (Rejoice), Locura (Madness), and Natural (Naturally). Ernesto named this particular wine “Amorio” (Love Affair) to convey the deep and enduring feelings that both he and the Argentine people have toward the delicious Malbec grape. The original artwork of this passionate dancing couple was created by Ernesto’s close friend and artist, Ariel Mlynarzewicz. We have no idea how to pronounce Ariel’s last name.

Tikal 2011 'Amorio' Malbec, Mendoza
Rating: 90

Fig, dark plum and dried cherry flavors are well-integrated and balanced in this rich, focused style, firmly tannic, with plenty of power behind the notes of graphite and hot stone. Finishes with hints of sandalwood and nutmeg. Drink now through 2018.

Good bright, deep ruby. High-toned aromas of black cherry, bitter chocolate, licorice pastille, sweet oak and leather. Very sweet and lush, with black cherry and dark berry flavors complemented but not overwhelmed by sexy oak. Finishes broad, thick and long, with lots of chewy, sweet, tongue-dusting tannins.
