In the days when salt and smoke were the only ways to preserve food, when fresh fruit was a rarity, wines with natural sweetness were the most expensive in the world. Riesling provided a splash of tropical fruit in a world of bland flavors. This late harvested Riesling is unabashedly fruity with great acid. Enjoy perfumes of flowers and peaches with a tropical juice quality.

Winemaking Notes: This Riesling is a blend of Left Foot Charley's higher acid and higher ripening sites in 2012. Fruit is sourced from the Waterfire Vineyard (Antrium County), Rosi Vineyard (Old Mission Peninsula), Chateau Fiasco (Old Mission Peninsula) and Engle Ridge Farm (Grand Traverse County). Stainless steel is used for fermentation. Natural balance is captured by halting the fermentation with cold rather than sweetening the wine after fermentation. This prevents the alcohols from being excessively high in the presence of added sugar and creating an overly flabby wine. With sweet wines it is important to remember that they will age beautifully if fermented from excellent fruit. This wine will continue to develop aroma and flavor in the bottle for several years.
