The Story:
After years of consulting for some of most well-known wineries in Mendoza, Michel
Rolland got to know his favorite vineyard lots. Every winemaker has their favorites
– the wines that year-in, year-out speak to them in a special voice. And then one
year, Michel noticed that one of his favorites was missing. When he learned that
the vineyard was for sale, he sprang into action by purchasing the vineyard and
launched a new single-vineyard brand named Val de Flores, modeled after his
estate in Pomerol.
Together with his wife Dany, Michel has invested his energy and passion into this
small vineyard. Primarily planted to Malbec in the 1940s and 1950s, the vineyard
is situated at the foot of the Andean mountain range in Vista Flores (in the southern
Uco Valley). The view is breathtaking: row after row of vines bordered with rose
bushes and olive trees with snow-topped peaks in the background, all basking in
wonderful sunshine under a vast, incredibly blue sky. Each year, a single wine is
produced from a process that is focused on selecting only the best fruit and best
the vineyard can offer.
Tasting Notes:
Sexy, lush, dark fruit with enticing floral and fruit aromas. The oak undertones are
rich and give the sense of an opulent old bar. A very focused and classy wine.
