Winemaking Notes: This Chinon comes from the villages of Rivière, Beaumont-en-Véron and Savigny-en-Véron. The soils here are a mix of Argilo-Calcaire and gravel which tend to produce wines that are a bit more approachable with soft tannins and lovely fruit. The core of the blend is a cuvée of old vines (45-50 years) raised mostly in used barriques, 1-3 years old. The balance is aged in tank, creating a wine that is bright, fresh and aromatic, with lovely cut. A perfect wine for picnics or by-the-glass in bistro-like settings.

Tasting Notes: 'Vigne en Veron' Chinon is a fresh, lively Cabernet Franc with an elegant nose of red berries, violets and wild herbs. The bright, fruit-forward palate offers lovely floral notes backed by raspberry, cassis and a touch of pepper. Hints of tobacco appear on the lingering finish.

Food Pairing: Try Roast Pork Loin

About Chinon: In a region known for its white wines, Chinon champions the red: its Cabernet Franc–based wines are light in body but full in aromatics, and were the favorite wines of 16th-century Rabelais. Located in the Touraine district of the Loire on the banks of the Vienne, the region’s cool climate allows the grapes to achieve a high level of acidity. Balanced by a vibrant fruitiness, Chinon is a wonderful food wine, especially picnic fare.
