Grapes are sourced from older estate vineyards including the centenarian Monte Real estate. Aged for 24 to 30 months in American oak followed by an additional 12 months in bottle. Monte Real stands for "Royal/Regal Mountain.” This is one of the oldest single estates in Rioja, owned by the Artacho - Frias family since 1700. In 1930, the winery hired a French winemaker who fell in love within this vineyard and named the brand.

"(100% tempranillo; aged for 30 months in American oak): Ruby-red. Sexy smoke- and spice-accented red fruit and floral pastille scents show impressive clarity and energy. Smooth, sweet and expansive on the palate, offering intense cherry-cola and blackberry flavors and an exotic rose pastille quality. Closes very long and sweet, with sneaky tannins and lingering spiciness. These are far and away the freshest bottles from this historic bodega that I've ever tasted stateside."
