Vinification:
The fruit was
100% destemmed
with
a
high percentage of whole berries to 1.5 ton
fermenters. A seven
day cold soak
ensured
gentle yet thorough extraction of
color and flavor.
The small
lots were fermented with BRG and RC212
strain
yeasts
for
an average of eight
days
and hand punched two to three times daily.
The wine
was aged twenty
months in mixed French cooperage
one to
two
years
old
before being blended
and bottled.
This wine was minimally processed from
100% free run juice without
fining or filtration.
Vintage Notes: 2010 was an outstanding vintage, marked by one of the longest growing seasons
on record.
A cool period during fruit set reduced yields, concentrating flavors in
the remaining grapes. Summer was relatively cool but sunny, allowing for steady
ripening and the retention of acidity and freshness in the fruit.
Harvest took place
in late October after
several months of mild, sunny weather, allowing
the
grapes
to develop intense flavor and classic varietal expression.
Tasting Notes: At once earthly and ethereal, the 2010
Cattrall Vineyard portrays the rich history
of the
volcanic Eola Hills as only own
-
rooted old vines can express it.
The
vibrant
appearance
and aroma evoke
fresh
violets and
mountain
huckleberries; a
theme that
continues on the palate
with a juicy streak of acidity tumbling
through an apothecary’s
cupboard
of
wild cherry bark,
gentian root, and
sweet
earth.
A
mouthful
of soft, velveteen tannin lends resonance
and length
to the
finish, which lingers
with a breath
of forest
floor and blackcap raspberries.
Youthful and exuberant
now, it will cellar and offer increasingly profound
insights into the
soul of its
terroir
for a decade or more.
