Winemaking Notes: The grapes underwent an 8-hour cold maceration prior to a temperature-controlled fermentation in 100% stainless steel tanks. The wine was held on the lees in tank. It was then cold stabilized to preserve freshness, filtered and bottled.

Tasting Notes: Clear, light yellow color. Nose is reminiscent of Spring flowers, violets and honeysuckle. Crisp and full-bodied with a waxy texture similar to white Rhone wines, this approachable wine has floral flavors on the palate with hints of stone and mineral which lingers. A real pleasure.

About: The Mendez family purchased the Finca os Cobatos Vineyard in 2006. Planted in the early '80s, this vineyard is one of the oldest vineyards in Monterrei. It encompasses 10 hectares planted to the white grape Godello and the red grape MencĂa.

Reviews
Finca Os Cobatos 2012 Godello, Monterrei DO
Rating: 87

My instincts tell me that Godello should assume increasing importance for shrewd consumers looking for an excellent dry white wine with plenty of vibrancy and character. Sadly, there is not a lot of this indigenous varietal found in Spain. It tends to do well in high altitude, rocky soils, and while it can handle some oak influence, it is usually at its finest with minimal oak and a naked presentation. That is exactly what the 2012 Finca Os Cobatos offers. From slate and quartz soils and an altitude of 600 meters, this medium-bodied white exhibits lots of honeyed citrus and tropical fruit notes, a touch of minerality and good freshness, vibrancy and zest. Drink it over the next year.
