About the Grape: 100% Doña Blanca, from a single vineyard planted in 1995. The grapes that go into Muradella Blanco come from the Tamaguelos district. Vines have been planted at a density of 3,500 to 7,500 vines per hectare and yields are very low (1,500 kilos/hectare) to obtain concentration and complexity. The vines are trained on a two-wired trellis in the double cordon system. The vineyard is certified organic by CRAEGA (Consejo Regulador de Agricultura Ecológica de Galicia).

Vinification: 50% whole cluster, 50% whole berry with no stems are put into cold Maceration for 48 hours in stainless steel tank. Once fermentation is half way done with its indigenous yeast, the wine is transferred to 3 year old 500 Lit barrels of French oak in order to finish fermentation. After 8 months in the barrel the wine is naturally decanted into stainless steel tanks where it stays for 4 months before it is bottled without filtration.

Tasting Notes: Light yellow. Deeply pitched aromas of peach pit, melon, honey and chamomile, with ginger and anise topnotes. Fleshy, palate-coating pear skin, pit fruit and citrus pith flavors show impressive energy and focus, with zesty minerality adding lift. Closes on a refreshingly bitter note, with excellent focus and lingering floral and licorice notes.

94pts (2010 vintage) Wine Advocate 10/2013
"The 2010 Muradella is produced from Treixadura from 14-year-old vines blended with some white grapes cherry-picked from old vines that are found intermixed in the old vineyards. Part of the grapes are destemmed, and one-third of the wine is aged in 500-liter barrels. The wine shows a bright yellow color, and a nose that is eminently mineral, with some citric, herbal-balsamic notes that could make you think of Chablis. The medium-bodied palate shows a very clean, pure wine, with great length and balanced acidity. 2,600 bottles were made. A superb effort. Bravo!"
