Vineyard Information: Situated in the Commune of Barbaresco, in Rio Sordo valley, south – south west facing exposure. They observe the “214/1” disposition of Community European: no chemical herbicide, and maximum natural control for treatment sprays.

Vinification: The skins remained in contact with the must during the first fermentation that lasted for 12-14 days, followed by a submerged cap maceration. After the alcoholic fermentation, malolactic fermentation was completed in the cellar at temperature of 20° C.

Aging: In traditional Slavonian oak cask of 10-20 hl for 22 months and matured in the bottle for at least 8 months. No filtration.

Beyond Barolo and Brunello by Tom Hyland (2012)
"This tiny estate, located at the Rio Sordo Vineyard in the Barbaresco Commune, is managed by husband and wife team of Italo Sobrino and Giovanna Rizzolio, who take great care in every step of the process from grape to vine. This is a medium-full wine offering textbook aromas of red cherry, orange peel and sandalwood backed by excellent depth of fruit and impressive persistence. Aged soley in grandi botti, the wood notes are quite subtle, and there is very good acidity along with graceful tannins. This is an outstanding example of what the terroir of Barbaresco is all about."

93pts (2010 vintage) Wine Advocate 6/2013
"The 2010 Barbaresco Rio Sordo shows crushed flowers, tobacco, dried mint, mocha and loads of pretty red berry. There’s a sparkle, or a shine, to the bouquet that is really something special. The wine speaks to the amazing results that can be achieved when Nebbiolo is allowed to sing solo without too much technique or meddling in the winery. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025."

Reviews
Cascina delle Rose 2009 Barbaresco, Rio Sordo, DOCG
Rating: 92

Cascina delle Rose’s 2009 Barbaresco Rio Sordo is slightly tighter and more reticent than the Tre Stelle. Barbarescos from Rio Sordo are usually more open than this, which bodes well for the future, even if readers will need to be patient. Firm yet well-integrated tannins frame an attractive, delineated finish laced with tobacco, leather, spices and expressive dark fruit. As good as this is, there is very little of the early appeal of the vintage. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2024.
