About the Grape: Romorantin is a white grape that is a sibling of Chardonnay. Cour-Cheverny is the only region in Loire that still makes wine from this grape. It is late in ripening.
Tasting Notes: The grape offers a range of aromas that are mineral and floral with notes of honey, dried fruits, quince and white flowers. It leaves the wine with a minty finish. Drink young for more fruit; recommend drinking within four years. Food Pairing: Fish, exotic foods, poultry and goat cheese. Chickpea Salad About Cheverny: Cheverny is an important zone in the Loire that
earned its appellation controlee status in 1993. It is situated at the
northeast corner of Touraine near Blois and is known for light reds from
Gamay and Pinot Noir (though Cabernets, Malbec and Pineau d'Aunis are
also allowed). Whites, too, are common and are usually lean Sauvignon
Blancs that provide a good value-driven counterpart to Sancerre and
Pouilly-Fume. Chenin Blanc and Chardonnay are also allowed. The local
Romorantin grape makes wines classified under the Cour-Cheverny
appellation.
