Quality: As a member of the Styrian Terroir and Classic Wine Estates group (STK®), Sattlerhof distinguishes between wines from Erste Lage and wines from Grosse Lage. Wines with the Erste STK Lage seal of quality are made from late harvest grapes from premium sites, matured individually according to the varietal character and aged for a long period. Wines of the Erste STK Lage category are very expressive and complex and have an aging potential of many years. Sattlerhof´s Erste STK Lage is Sernauberg. The Sernauberg site is a southeast-facing basin with extremely steep slopes and fine, sandy soil with a gravelly covering. Primarily Sauvignon Blanc and Morillon varieties are grown here.
Aging: Stainless steel tank, controlled fermentation, long storage on the lees (from October to June). Tasting Notes: Aromas of gooseberries, cassis and a touch of dill. Rich but flowery and daintily playful. A great deal of Sauvignon spiciness comes through in the taste as well as a little of white asparagus. There is a long, fruity echo in the finish. Pair with Asian dishes, hearty fish, shell fish and asparagus. About the Winery: Sattlerhof Winery is one of the leading and internationally most renowned wine estates in Southern Styria. The family business cultivates 30 hectares of vineyards, with Sauvignon Blanc as the most common variety. With the Hotel and Restaurant Sattlerhof, run by Hannes Sattler, the winery is among Styria’s top destinations for connoisseurs of fine food and wine. 92pts (2011 vintage) Wine Enthusiast 7/2013 "Ripe mango, peach and pineapple all come together in this rich, opulent wine. Round yet there's a strong ginger and spice component. This is a complex wine, textured, rich and worth aging for at least another two years."
