Grapes: One-third Godello, one-third Dona Blanca and one-third Treixadura. All grapes are Certified Organic by CRAEGA (Consejo Regulador de Agricultura Ecológica de Galicia). The grapes that go into making Alanda come from all three districts of Monterrei: Pazo de Monterrei; at 430 meters (1,411 ft.) elevation, Tamaguelos; at an elevation of 390-460 meters (1,280-1,590 ft.), and Oimbra; sited at 400 meters (1,312 ft.) elevation.

Tasting Notes: This wine has expressive, high pitched and fresh aromas of spring flowers, wet stones and minerals, with jasmine notes. In general, the wine has very similar characters to those found in a traditional Sauvignon Blanc from the Loire. On the palate, the fruit is clean, ripe and attractively tangy without being sweet and has a “nervy” acidity that recalls a fine Puligny Montrachet, Chassagne Montrachet or Chablis. The finish is neat and clean and calls forth another sip. This wine has a freshness and acidity that make it a great match with shellfish, deep sea fish, and chicken dishes prepared with Spanish, Latin and Pan-Asian spices. This wine’s easy drinking nature also makes it a natural for casual tapas, small plates and sipping on its own.

Winemaking Notes: A blend of Godello, Dona Blanca and Treixadura, this wine is made with grapes sourced from all three districts within Monterrei. Each grape variety is vinified separately in stainless steel tank with no malolactic fermentation. Fermentation occurs naturally utilizing indigenous yeast that live on the skin of the grapes. The Treixadura portion of the blend macerates at cool temperature (39°F) for 2 days. The other two grape varieties do not undergo maceration before fermentation. The wine does not see oak and it is normally bottled in May. The wine is aged in stainless steel tank.
