Country of Origin: France Location: Côte d'Or, Burgundy People: Yann Durieux, Owner & Winemaker
Yann Durieux worked closely with Yannick Champ at Domaine Prieure-Roch for 10 years before he set out to make his own unique wines from 3 hectares around Villers-La-Faye. He grows Pinot Noir, Aligote, and Chardonnay with an eye towards natural winemaking and balance with the ecosystem. He is one of the few producers who does not prune his vines, but braids the shoots together after harvest. His ethos is to make ‘true wines’ and in doing so he is happy to leave convention behind him. Making pure, high-quality wines is his utmost concern: he doesn’t use chemicals or sulfites, keeps yields low, and farms organically and biodynamically (certified organic and biodynamic by Agriculture Biologique (Ecocert); Agriculture Biodynamique (Terra Dynamis)).He bottles an Aligoté called Love and PIF (French slang for wine), a Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Blanc Manon, and two Hautes-Côtes de Nuits Rouge called Black Pinot and Les Grands Ponts. The wines are in very small production, but they’ve been received with overwhelming enthusiasm.
