Country of Origin: Germany Location: Rheinhessen People: Fritz and Agnes Hasselbach, Owner
FRITZ is a cartoon doppelganger for winemaker Fritz Hasselbach. He and his wife Agnes inherited the successful winery of Gunderloch 25 years ago, and have since been devoted to making one thing and making it well: a light, balanced, food-friendly Riesling.
Their winery is located between Nackenheim and Mainz in the well-known “Roter Hang,” or “red hill” district of Rheinhessen, near the Rhine River. Named for the red slate soil that comes from a high proportion of minerals, this area features ideal conditions for Riesling. Hasselbach’s slopes are steep and southeastern facing, and they benefit from warm, sunny days, and cool nights.

88 Points (2008 vintage) Wine Spectator, February 2010 "Offers flavors of apple and nectarine, with a hint of mineral. Round and fruity, yet with enough acidity to keep it all bright and lingering through the finish. Drink now. 10,000 cases made."
Vancouver Sun, May 2009 "One sip will have you swooning all spring and summer...you may never drink another wine...bright minerality and fresh fruit...this should definitely be one of your go-to value wines for the summer..."
