Matilde Poggi |
Country of Origin: Italy Location: Affi, Cavaion Veronese People: Matilde Poggi, Owner & Winemaker
Matilde Poggi grows grapes and makes wine in Cavaion Veronese, in the heart of the Bardolino production zone in Northern Italy. The vineyard is surrounded by Monte Baldo to the north as well as Lake Garda, and is located outside of the town of Affi. The property and its 15th-century stone farmhouse have been in the family since 1880, and her first harvest was 1984. She currently has 28 hectares of vines, planted mainly with the Corvina grape.
Matilde Poggi makes food-friendly Bardolino DOC (one of the first DOCs in Italy) from her Corvina and Rondinella grapes; Garganega 'Camporengo' (white); Bardolino Chiaretto (rose), a saignee of her red Bardolino; as well as a Cabernet Sauvignon/Cabernet Franc blend called 'Quaiare' that spends considerable time in oak.
Poggi has three daughters, to whom she’d like to pass on Le Fraghe one day. Media Links Vimeo: Le Fraghe - An Introduction WineStories.com: Le Fraghe's Bardolino Social Media Le Fraghe Facebook
