People: The Della Seta Ferrari Corbelli Family, Owners & Winemakers

The della Seta Ferrari Corbelli family has owned the estate since the mid-20th century. Its 70 hectares lie in the lush Chiana Valley, south of Florence from Arezzo to Orvieto. This valley is known for Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and T-bone steaks from the white Chianina cattle. At the center of the estate is Villa Svetoni and its surrounding gardens, built in the early 19th century. The vineyards are planted at 300 meters above sea level, on the loamy and clay soil of the Gracciano hills, one of the historical crus of Montepulciano. The 1864 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano of the estate won a prize at the international fair of Torino, and some of these bottles remain in the family’s cellar.

The family reduces yields to increase quality. The grape varieties they grow are Prugnolo Gentile (a local clone of Sangiovese), and a small amount of Canaiolo, Mammolo, and Merlot. Wines are aged in new French and Slavonian oak casks and French tonneaux.
