Originally from Switzerland, Mauro von Siebenthal knows good wine. From an early childhood he grew up in an Italian gastronomic environment where his mother and grandmother encouraged him to understand aromas and flavors. He took part in selecting the wines when uncles and cousins arrived from Italy with wines from Barolo, Brunello, Chianti, etc. He loved to choose great wines from France and around the world to set them up against those Italian wines. He soon realized his life’s desire was to create his own winery.

His education as an oenologist is self-taught. He learned the subject tirelessly searching for more and more information as well as many trips to wineries and wine-growing regions. To be a good oenologist, one must respect the identity of the terroir and interpret the unique qualities of each meter of land with its unique qualities.

Turning his passion into reality started in 1998 with the purchase of the first 10 hectares (Parcela #7), a plot of land that was practically abandoned. After clearing the land and choosing the best varieties for each block, in 2000 he started building the winery so it would be functioning in time for the first vintage (2002) of the first two wines in production (Carabantes and Montelig).

About the Valley: The Aconcagua Valley has a Mediterranean climate with warm summers that are cooled by Pacific Ocean breezes. This cooling influence creates a long growing season with ripening two to three weeks later than any other Chilean wine region. Late ripening and low rainfall (less than 10 inches) are the ideal conditions for more concentrated wines.
