Schloss Hallburg Estate |
Country of Origin: Germany Location: Franconia People: Graf von Schönborn Family, Owners | Georg Hünnerkop, Estate Manager
In 1806, the estate and castle became a part of the many von Schönborn
holdings. The Graf von Schönborn wine estate Schloss Hallburg is bordered on the northwest by the meandering Main River and to the east by a canal. The estate includes 30 ha of vineyards, which strech out in the Main Valley and are planted with typical grape varieties for that region: Silvaner, Riesling, Bacchus, Müller-Thurgau, Traminer, Pinot Blanc and Pinot Noir. Since 1984 the Hallburg castle estate has been expertly run and managed by Georg Hünnerkopf. In 2009 he was chosen Estate
Manager of the Year in Germany by Gault –Millau. The castle is situated approximately two kilometres from the town of
Volkach, in the heart of the picturesque Franconian region and is
surrounded by extensive vineyards. The slopes belonging to Schloss Hallburg are owned exclusively by the wine estate and are planted with Riesling and Silvaner grapes. Protected from the elements by forestry and stone walls, this is the birthplace of the estate’s vintage wines. The slopes point southwards and enjoy almost Mediterranean climate.
Graf von Schönborn is one of the founder members of the Association of German Prädikat Wine Estates (VDP) and has for many years been managing its valuable vineyards in tune with nature. Property is practicing organic and will be certified 2015.
