Country of Origin: France Location: Agly Valley People: Serge Depeyre & Brigitte Bile, Owners & Winemakers
Serge and Brigitte Depeyre's first bottled vintage was the 2005, after creating their domaine in 2002 Serge is the viticultural director at Clos des Fees. David Schildknecht wrote of them in June 2011,"Brigitte and Serge Depeyre's wines were among the most exciting discoveries of my recent trip for their distinctiveness and promise...Much of the Depeyres' 31 morsellated acres, they determined, had been planted with unpropitious selections or high-yielding clones, and they have bravely replaced not only all of their Syrah but even some Carignan with superior massale selections on carefully-chosen rootstock so as to showcase what they, clearly correctly, divined to be outstanding dark marl and schist terroirs. They also planted Mourvedre, with the selection from the Perrin's of Beaucastel....Depeyres' 2010 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Sainte-Colombe reflects - like other wines tasted on this occasion - not merely the inherently high potential of its vintage, but also the progress this estate has made as they work their soil and vines more sensitively and as those vines mature."
Location: Between Rivesaltes and Maury, 10 min from Perpignan,
the domain of 13 ha created in 2002 is located in the valley of Agly.
The region is volcanic and calcareous, primarily made up of marls and
black schists. The distribution of these type of vines on these soils
and these different exposures make the wines complex. With their passion
for this hard and generous soil, in love with this authentic region, they
cultivate and age their vines in the purest tradition. Farming: They do not treat in a routine manner but observe and analyse the soil, the bunches of grapes, leaves...regularly. Respecting the environment and its soil, Serge does not
use chemical fertilizers, he uses organic matter. valley of Agly. A mule partly does the plowings.
