Chateau Fourcas-Boire was originated from the union of the estates of Clos du Fourcas and Moulin du Bourg which are amongst the oldest vineyards of the village. It is located on the north of Listrac-Médoc. The hilltops of Moulin du Bourg and Fourcas stretch themselves on fifteen hectares on the north edge of the château, and have not very deep gravelly soil on a clayey subsoil. Three grape-varieties can be found there : Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Merlot. The other half of the vineyard lays on a clayey-limestone soil and has mostly Merlot.

The Médoc has six local appellations : Listrac-Médoc, Margaux, Moulis, Saint-Julien, Pauillac and Saint-Estèphe, plus the two appellations Médoc and Haut-Médoc. Thanks to its wines' typicity and fame, a decree of the 8th of June 1957 gave Listrac the local Médoc appellation. The distance of the river from the vineyards is an undeniable advantage as the grapes are protected from the fogs coming from the estuary, and as it favours a better sanitary state.
