Domaine Montrose is located in Pézenas, South of France, 15 km away from the Mediterranean coast. Montrose refers to its location on a volcano (Mont) & to the pink (rose) flowers almond trees surrounding the vineyard. Founded in 1701 when actual owner's ancestor received its three lizards coat of arms from the King of France. Family owned since then, Bernard Coste is the 11th generation in charge of Montrose's estate. His son Olivier as joined him in 2009. The knowledge the family has gained since the vineyard was created in 1701, allows them to strive for excellence.
Freshness, elegance and balance are keys to Domaine Montrose philosophy, in addition to:
-Sustainable growing to enhance our Mediterranean terroir,
-Night harvesting to avoid grape oxidation and preserve freshness,
-Gentle pressing to extract the fruit's richest flavors
-Controlled fermentation process
Montrose is granted by a typical Mediterranean climate: cold & dry winter, hot and dry summer, humid spring and fall. Red & Rosé grapes are planted on villafranchiens (small pebbles) & basaltic soils with low water reserves forcing the roots to go deep and giving good concentration & balance to our wines. Rosés are harvested earlier to preserve freshness & fruitiness. White grapes are planted on chalky clay marls to get fruitiness & delicacy. Some Chardonnays and Viogniers are on basaltic soils to add more mineralty to the wines.
