Bronca Family |
Country of Origin: Italy Location: Valdobbiadene People: Antonella & Ersiliana Bronca, Owners | Federico Giotto, Winemaker
The Sorelle firm was founded by Antonella and Ersiliana in the mid-eighties, inspired from their father Livio who had been involved in the wine business for over 30 years. Their father succeeded in transmitting them a great love that later became a genuine passion for the vineyards and for good quality wine. These are the two muses which fuel their inspiration in this wine growing and producing activity settled in Colbertaldo, a small farming center right in the heart of the Prosecco DOC area of Conegliano and Valdobbiadene.
It is not easy to find such enthusiastic women in the wine field. Thanks to their deep passion and sensitivity, they were able to combine the old family tradition together with the modern knowledge of growing and making wine. Together with Pietro, Antonella's husband, Ersiliana and Antonella expanded the farm adding 13 hectares of vineyards in Rua di Feletto, in the pleasant hills above Conegliano. Their aim was to exploit their production from the new vineyards with a high density of vines per hectare. The main protagonist is the red wine Colli di Conegliano, a product on which the firm has set its hopes, and even if it is a new product it seems to be maintaining its promise.
Apart from Prosecco, in the new vineyards we can also find the white wine Colli di Coneglian La cantinao, on which much research is still being invested in order to reach the highest expression in quality. Prosecco is also grow in Colbertaldo in the old family vineyards. The second step in which the firm is involved is the realization, above the old buildings, of a modern, superbly structured winery of wood and steel. Modern technology controls the whole wine working process, respecting at the same time the old tradition.
Elisa, Ersiliana's daughter, has recently taken a degree in winemaking industry at the University of Padua and is now giving her important contribution in the family business. From the same University comes Federico Giotto, a promising wine expert who works with quite a lot of synergy at the Sorelle Bronca Firm in order to achieve better wines emphasizing the importance of the vineyards.
From Gambero Rosso 2012 "Few wineries in the new Prosecco DOCG zone have
chosen not to focus exclusively on Treviso’s world-renowned sparkler. Among
them, Antonella and Ersiliana Bronca’s winery shines out. Here at Vidor, they
have managed to produce a limited yet excellent range of still wines to
accompany their spumantes. The vineyard, extensive enough to satisfy all the
winery’s production requirements, is farmed organically. In recent years, we
have seen an increasingly important contribution from Elisa, Ersilianna’
oenologist daughter, who works alongside Piero Balcon on the technical side of
management."
