The del Villar brothers founded Bodega Hermanos del Villar in 1995, with 247 acres of vines in the town of Rueda. Their most widely planted grape varieties are: for white - Verdejo, Sauvignon Blanc, Viura (also known as Macabeo) and for red - Tempranillo.

What makes Hermanos del Villar wines unique? The innovative and briliant Pablo del Villar's tireless efforts to make the BEST wine possible, through innovative vinification techniques such as battonage in stainless steel tanks of 5000 lit. Unique soil profile of these terroir driven wines. Fermented with the natural occuring yeasts from their own grapes. Nighttime harvesting maintains freshness while minimizing oxidation. Vines are over 30 years old, producing lower yields, 5 to 10 clusters per vine.

An even better value is the 2010 Oro de Castilla, a 100% Verdejo that was fermented and aged in stainless steel. Nutmeg, almonds, mineral, and peach aromas lead to a dry, lengthy, satisfying white with vibrant acidity and impeccable balance. Enjoy it over the next 2-3 years

(no malo, all stainless steel): Light yellow-gold. Assertive aromas of pear and melon along with more exotic passion fruit, mango and lichee scents. Juicy tropical and pit fruit flavors are lifted by a floral element and become spicier with air. Nicely concentrated and expansive, with impressive finishing energy

A totally naked, 100% Verdejo, dry white that had malolactic fermentation blocked and was aged only in stainless steel, this 2011 did receive batonnage and lees stirring on its deposit. Made from 35-40-year old vines, it is a flowery, elegant white wine offering notes of orange rind, lemon butter and crisp, fresh flavors. Drink this medium-bodied, ripe, delicious 2011 over the next year.

Pale yellow. Lemon pith and pear skin on the nose, with a deeper note of honey adding complexity. Musky, dry and incisive, with sappy orchard fruit and floral flavors accented by a touch of bitter herbs. Finishes with an echo of smoky minerals and a salty mineral quality.

In a vintage that was plagued by drought throughout Spain, producer Hermanos del Villar’s 2012 Verdejo comes across as having a lot more concentration and intensity than one normally expects from this indigenous varietal (which reaches qualitative heights in the appellation of Rueda). The wine exhibits lots of honeysuckle aromas in its refined, flowery, crisp nose, terrific purity and a zesty finish. Yields were 30% less than normal, and this naked dry white was aged totally in stainless steel with no malolactic. Drink it over the next year.
